Christian Novak of the Military Education Preservation Project interviews former Colquitt, Georgia mayor, Luther Clearman, about his experiences during WWII. Mr. Clearman was trained as a medic and shipped to France during the latter part of the war in Europe. After the war ended and Clearman’s clearing company processed many soldiers on their way back home, he was shipped out to the Philippines through the Panama Canal. Before arriving in the Philippines, the first atomic bomb was dropped in Japan. After the war ended, he was transferred to occupied Japan to resume medical clearing duties. Not long after, he returned home. Listen to his striking accounts of war-torn France, an unlikely celebration in Luxembourg, encountering newly liberated POWs, and more in this short but intriguing interview.
Mr. Clearman is a humble man, insisting that his duties were not to attract fame or popularity. The MEPP expressed our sincerest appreciation for his service, and we hope you will join us in doing the same!
